Asylum seekers are arriving daily in Maryland, some en route to other locations and some to remain here. The majority are parents with children from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. They arrive traumatized from their experiences and with few resources, settling in local communities with their “sponsors” (typically immigrant family members) to await their ICE appointments in Baltimore or elsewhere. Several local nonprofit organizations and volunteer networks are rallying to give a warm welcome to the arrivals. They provide care packages, information about local legal and medical services, help with school registration, and offer case management and transportation assistance.
You can help by bringing a donation of supplies (see the List Here) or money to the MoCo Grassroots Campaign Kickoff and Picnic on August 10. Look for the collection box.
